Top 5 LGBT+ Ships

My favorite same sex couples.

The LGBT+ community is more represented in books, movies, and tv shows now more than ever. I’m bisexual so I’d like to highlight some of my favorite same-sex ships. There are so many wonderful same-sex couples but I managed to narrow it down to my top 5.

5. Mary Louise and Nora (ship name=???)

A ship I don’t hear a lot about is Mary Louise and Nora from The Vampire Diaries. Mary Louise (or Mary Lou as Nora calls her) and Nora were only in The Vampire Diaries for part of the eighth season. Mary Lou and Nora are heterics (a vampire, witch hybrid) which means they’ve been together for a long time. While they’re cruel and enjoy torturing people Mary Louise and Nora always showed their soft side to each other (like a more satanic version of Brittana*?). Mary Louise and Nora have been through everything together and won’t live without each other. They will fight everyone (and I really mean everyone) to ensure each others safety. They are both extremely protective. Their caring relationship brings a human quality to their otherwise stone cold characters.

*Brittana mentioned later.

Nora is portrayed by Scarlett Byrne.

4.  Newtmas
While this ship is not cannon it definitely pulls on my heart strings. For years fans (myself included) have been going crazy over the thought of Newtmas. Newt and Thomas have know each other for as long as Thomas can remember (quite literally). These two live in a dangerous world where anyone could be hurt in a second. These boys always have each others backs and Newt is always trying to stop Thomas from doing something stupid. Newt and Thomas have a beautiful connection that can withstand life and death (page 250).

  • The Scorch Trials (movie)

Thomas is portrayed by Dylan O’Brien.

Newt is portrayed by Thomas Brodie Sangster.

3. Brittana.

Brittana where do I start. These girls are so perfect for each other I don’t even know where to start. Brittana is made up of Brittany S. Pierce and Santana Lopez. Brittany is sweet and kind to everyone while Santana is rough around the edges and always has a snarky comment. Brittany is bisexual while Santana is a lesbian. While Santana is mean and snarky to everyone Brittany seem to be her only exception. Santana has been hurt a lot in her life and Brittany is the only one with whom she truly lets her guard down. Even though they had to battle through homophobia and a long distance relationship Brittany and Santana always find their way back to each other.

  • Glee

Santana Lopez is portrayed by Naya Rivera.

2. Solangelo.

(Spoiler Alert! The following paragraph contains spoilers regarding the sexuality as well as the godly parent of a character in the Percy Jackson and the Olympians series!)

Solangelo has definitely earned its spot near the top of my list. Solangelo is the ship name for Will Solace and Nico DiAngelo. These characters are almost complete opposites even down to appearance. While Nico has the appearance of your stereotypical bad boy (even though we all know he’s a cinnamon roll) and wears Nirvana tee-shirts Will is a sweetheart inside and out. Nico is the son of Hades: God of the Underworld. On the contrary Will’s father is Apollo: God of the Son. Nico and Will are written so well. Their conversations are playful and caring. They cared deeply for each other even before they started dating. They have both lost people which results in them cherishing each other deeply. Will and Nico are a match made in heaven(or the underworld???)

1.Malec.

My all time favorite same-sex couple is Malec. If you haven’t heard of Malec (I don’t think there’s anyone who hasn’t heard of Malec) it is the ship of Alec Lightwood and Magnus Bane. Magnus is bisexual and has been in may relations with females and males. Alec is gay and has never dated anyone besides Magnus. Magnus’ flamboyance and Alec’s shy personality mesh together perfectly. The evolution of Malec is shown beautifully in Cassandra Clare’s books; as well as in the tv adaptation. While they certainly have their problems (although is a Cassandra Clare book complete without a little relationship drama?) they always emerge stronger than ever.
